The James Randi Award for Outstanding Contribution to Skepticism (UK)

There are many amazing people in the UK working tirelessly for skeptical causes, to advance critical thinking, or to address the pseudoscience affecting the country. These people are not necessarily paid for their work, and give up their personal time for the benefit of all. If you know such a person, The James Randi Educational Foundation would like to hear from you. It could be your favourite blogger or podcaster, grassroots writer, educator, someone who works behind the scenes, etc. If they do good things for skepticism, we'd like to know about it. We are not looking for those who have careers in this area, but everyday folk who make big sacrificies for skepticism.

The Judging Process

We will take the nominations, shortlist them to a final three, and the JREF plus a UK judge (Prof Richard Wiseman) will choose a winner, who will receive a trophy and prize.

How to nominate

Simply send an email to nominations@tamlondon.org with the name of your nominated person as the subject, and your reason for choosing them.

Please include as much information as possible to support your nomination. For example, evidence of their work, testimonials, background, etc. The more information you provide, the more we have to go on when assessing the entries.

Closing date

The closing date for nominations is noon on Wednesday 23rd September 2009.

Yes, you can nominate yourself

We don't take into account who is doing the nominating, so if you want to nominate yourself, feel free. We promise we won't tell anyone.

Quality of nominations is more important then quantity

This is a nomination system not a voting system, so a single, excellent nomination for someone could count as highly as a dozen nominations for someone else. Each nomination will be taken on its individual merits, so if a duplicate nomination doesn't add any extra evidence, then it won't necessarily help. We are looking to reward merit rather than popularity.

We'll need to contact the winner

If the winner has a public profile, then it will be straightforward enough to contact them. However, if you are nominating someone without a public profile, then please ensure you are aware of a way to contact them in the event they win. DO NOT pass anyone's contact details to us without their express permission! We can email you if needed to ask you to pass on a message.

Nominees MUST be a resident of the UK

This award is in conjunction with TAM London, and only permanant residents of the UK are eligible to win.

Other terms and conditions

JREF and its agents reserve the right to amend or cancel any aspect of this award and its conditions. Submitting an entry does not guarantee eligibility. No correspondence about nominations or winners will be entered into.
